Terms of use
The short version: Bail is a self-control tool you choose to use. It's free. Use it sensibly, keep your recovery ticket safe, and know it isn't perfect.
Last updated: [DATE]. These terms are between you and [NAME / COMPANY, ADDRESS, KvK NUMBER] ("we"). Draft: have these checked before launch.
1. What Bail is
Bail lets you block apps and websites on your own iPhone for a time you choose, using Apple's Screen Time. You decide what to block and for how long. Bail is for managing your own device; don't use it to control someone else's.
2. It depends on Apple
Blocking is done by iOS, not by us. Apple can change how Screen Time works, and iOS doesn't guarantee that every block always applies. Bail may not block everything you choose, every time. Don't rely on it for anything where a failure could cause harm.
3. Your responsibility
- Don't block anything you might need in an emergency or for your health, work or safety.
- "Allow only these" modes block almost everything else. Make sure the apps you depend on are on the list.
- You're responsible for the settings you choose, including how long you lock in.
4. Pardons
Ending a session early ("bailing out") uses a pardon. You get 3 free pardons each calendar month. Pardons have no cash value and can't be bought, sold, transferred or carried over. We may change how many pardons you get; we'll say so in the app first.
5. The Screen Time lock
Bail can help you set an iPhone Screen Time passcode that nobody knows. This is optional, and it's your choice. Please understand before you do it:
- You may be locked out of Screen Time settings until you get the passcode back.
- Getting it back depends on your recovery ticket. Bail keeps it on your phone and lets you email it to us. If you lose your phone, erase it, or lose the ticket, we can't recover the passcode.
- We aim to answer recovery requests within [X] working days, but we can't guarantee a response time.
- Apple's own passcode recovery options are separate from Bail. Erasing the iPhone removes the passcode along with everything else.
6. Free, as is
Bail is provided free and "as is". To the extent the law allows, we don't give warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by law.
7. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by blocks you set, by Apple's systems, or by being unable to recover a Screen Time passcode. Our total liability is limited to [€50]. This doesn't limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that can't be limited by law.
8. Changes and ending
We may update these terms; we'll post the new date here, and for big changes we'll tell you in the app. You can stop using Bail at any time by deleting it.
9. Law
These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
